We’ve walked in different parts of Grass Wood on a number of occasions, but this was the first time back since “you know what” began. We parked in the rather full National Park car park on a lovely sunny day. Grassington was typically very busy but, as is so often the case, the crowds didn’t move far from the village, and once beyond the houses and in amongst the fields and the woods, we enjoyed the almost palpable tranquility of the surroundings.
Up through the woods themselves, across the road and down into the subtly named “Lower Grass Wood” beside the River Wharfe. Along past “Ghaistley Strid’ which with water levels quite low was distinctly quiescent and peaceful rather than ghaistley, and back up the hill into the village for ice cream and the return to the car. Not a long walk, my Fitbit registered 8.5km, but a beautiful day well spent.
