RHS Harlow Carr in December

The last visit of 2019 and the series completed. Our membership continues and we shall I feel sure come back here many times, and I’m equally sure that we will make photographs when we come.

This was a lovely day, visiting in the early afternoon, with plenty of people about. The sense in the gardens was one of anticipation and preparedness. Lots of clear, black(ish) earth lay ready for the new season’s planting, whether in the herbaceous borders or in the kitchen garden. Various development projects are still under way; notably the new rock garden surrounding part of the stream, which will also be a flood prevention device, and construction work on a new bridge.

There were various art installations – including a very hungry caterpillar and a pair of boxing hares! I’ve uploaded the whole shoot of 28 images. I was very interested to try a little monochrome which, the winter colours notwithstanding, seems to me to have worked reasonably effectively.

Happy New Year to the gardens and to those who work in them …… see you in 2020!
